@BurlHorniachek @AntigoneJournal I did #Aldhelm & #Maximianus books, and have translated #Lactantius, #Ennodius, #Ausonius & others. I am also hoping that my first #OldEnglish translation will be accepted for publication before too long.

#Ennodius’ #poetry offers the reader a look into how #Roman literary culture continued to thrive in the aftermath of the traditional "fall" of Rome in 476 CE. This text offers the first English translation of the poetry with introduction and notes. https://t.co/2EQ0mSMYZQ

A lot of interesting sixth-century Latin literature is never taught in #classics departments. #Boethius #Maximianus #Cassiodorus #Arator #Ennodius #Corippus

Boethius was not just loved, but sweated over and squeezed for every drop of meaning. Look at a manuscript of the Consolatio and chances are it will look something like this (Ross. lat. 538, newly digitized, H/T @gundormr). https://t.co/H8Z770Z6Ci

From the early sixth century literary renaissance (#Ennodius, #Boethius, #Maximianus, #Cassiodorus) under the #Ostrogoth king #Theodoric--a short time before everything, well, fell apart:

In Elegy III #Maximianus portrays #Boethius as a pimp. Saint #Ennodius wrote an epigram accusing Boethius of being cowardly, effeminate & corrupt--and also wrote him a letter accusing him of cheating on a real estate deal. You decide.
