Here is where the take-home message of this #facultyfailtale comes into focus. You often can count the number of grants you get in a career on one hand, because if you are really invested in the subject area, you likely will need years to get each of your grants. 15/

You don’t have to restrict all your action to your lowest, base-rate privilege. Yet, if you are stuck on what to do, start at the place where, if you don’t take action, there aren’t a lot of people around you who can act in your absence. Basically, what would Peter Parker do? 28/
I used this #facultyfailtale to tell you a story about my lowest, base-rate privilege. I chose to bring this up, in part, because a few followers of this account either serve as Editors of #mentalhealth journals or are linked to societies/associations who own these journals 29/
Here is where the take-home message of this #facultyfailtale comes into focus. Any of us who affiliate with an institution of higher learning, regardless of career stage, has a privilege that many others do not…. 22/

Took a university post to help train other clin psychs, having given up on getting PhD funding.
Sought small grant, but failed.
Then, stumbled my way into PhD funding (long story).

I may not be able to top this epic #facultyfailtale in future posts, but that’s not because my rejections run in short supply! As far as grants go, I am currently at 3 wins/50+ losses! 17/
Equally so, I cherish the lesson learned from this #facultyfailtale: I would rather spend 6 years trying to fund the project I would love to work on than spend just 1 year to fund the project that I would dread taking on! 16/
