Thanks @themjcouk for the opportunity to talk with councils at #ffn18
It’s always a great event
I really appreciate the opportunity to canter through the @LGAcomms’ work for councils and to spend time with ace council CEOs and senior managers

@georgina_qwest from @Qwest_Services talking @themjcouk #ffn18 about the #JointVenture between @Go_CheshireWest and @ENGIE_Places_UK and five guiding principles #Collaboration #Creation #Adaptability #Accountability and #Place
@ENGIE_Places_UK @HaydnScarboro introducing @georgina_qwest and @HeloiseMacAndre from @Qwest_Services and @Go_CheshireWest talking @themjcouk #ffn18 about their #JointVenture
.@Solace_UK president @jomillerdonny urges #localgov to make the case for better funding itself instead of relying on @mhclg - https://t.co/nZswxkm5vG #FFN18
@jomillerdonny Brilliantly inspirational and passionate about the need for change 👏👏👏 #FFN18
.@ManCityCouncil's @joanneroney says transformational leadership was the key to #Manchester’s response to the arena bombing - https://t.co/vPuBdxBj2g #localgov #ffn18
At the start of austerity Scot and wales were funded at £200 per head more than England for schools and council services. Now it is £800. @jomillerdonny #ffn18
We have to talk about spending money more effectively
The difference between the haves and have nots - one of the things @jomillerdonny wanted to pay attention to.
Also equality and diversity - and there was a bit of flak for that. #ffn18
It’s really tough out there for our people, @jomillerdonny tells #ffn18
Food banks, poverty, social care failures, children’s services failures
In the past we have done transformation through structure change instead of behaviour change, @joanneroney tells #ffn18
Transformational leadership is honest, and you make mistakes. It’s draining.
The question of what should you devolve is the wrong question. It’s should be, what should central gov do - then everything else should be devolved @RobWhiteman #ffn18
Let’s start a debate about what makes the sector better other than just money @RobWhiteman #ffn18
You need finance directors on the top team, now more than ever. Local gov is taking CFOs off the top team at a rapid rate, @RobWhiteman tells #ffn18
It is ‘plainly imprudent’
@RobWhiteman #ffn18 @mycountycouncil didn’t go bust because of austerity, it went bust because of poor management.
All the bodies of local gov, @CIPFA @LGANews @Solace_UK @CfPScrutiny all have a part to play in sector led improvement
Sector doesn’t have a view on its future or unified view on a range of other issues and that’s a problem, @RobWhiteman tells #ffn18
There’s a bit of victim mentality. The sector is blaming austerity for anything that is going wrong
@RobWhiteman ‘it’s unchallengeable’ that local gov needs more money. He doesn’t buy the idea that local gov should be reduced to core services
Local gov is part of restoring trust and confidence in government - but you have to do it in a way that’s not heavy handed #FFN18
