@GarciaLabMS @SiegfriedHekimi Also, many faculty have parents or someone in their families that are already faculty or associated with academia to guide them. Others don't. Hence it's a special achievement. I will try to find data that I saw a few months ago. #DEI and #FirstGenFaculty

As a first-gen student, I've always known that other students with legacies in academia or family histories of college education have inherent advantages over me, but I don't think I've ever been able to see and understand that as clearly as today.
