My rating for Mariah Carey: Butterfly. This album showed Mariah's evolution. She was as strong as ever vocally. I really liked the duets on this album. The sounds of the album varied from Hip-Hopesque to soulful. There were no missteps on this album. #FiveMics
My rating for Foxy Brown: Chyna Doll. This album was average all around. The production was good, but nothing really stood out. The Lil Kim comparison is accurate, tho lyrically they are different. The features outshined her (especially Beans on 4,5,6). #FiveMics
My rating for Mary J Blige: My Life. The first thing that really stands out is the production. Chucky Thompson did his thing with that. This was peak Mary vocally. The interludes weren't bad either. Fire album from the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul. #FiveMics
My rating for Queen Latifah: Black Reign. I liked the direction she took on this album. She touched on a variety of topics and executed different styles well. I like the production on this album. She also picked really good singles that brought me into the album. #FiveMics
My rating for Rapsody: Eve. I was rocking with Rap lyrically. I liked that she switched her flows up. Production was dope mostly. The features were just okay, with some being dope (Gza & Queen Latifah), some mid (J Cole). Overall, I really liked the vibe on this. #FiveMics
My rating for Da Brat: Funkdafied. J.D. was indeed inspired by West Coast for the production on this album (which in the 90s would get you dissed). But it sounded dope. Da Brat really shined with her flow. This is a fire album, imo and it's definitely worth a listen. #FiveMics
My rating for Bahamadia: Kollage. Bahamadia has a unique voice with a spoken word type flow that works here. She got some dope production on this. Producers did their thing on this. And the Interludes didn't bother me that much. Overall, this is a dope album. #FiveMics
My rating for Lupe Fiasco: The Cool. you can tell Lupe stepped it up with the pen. There are some really great tracks on here with really good production. The album tails off at the end. There's a couple tracks I wasn't feeling. Overall, this is a really good album. #FiveMics
My rating for Scarface: The Untouchable. This album doesn't come up when talking about Face's discography but should. The production had that mob feel to it that was dope. It felt like an audio book. Face is dope on the mic, and this was no exception. Dope album #FiveMics
My rating for OutKast: ATLiens. It's a dope follow-up to their debut. I felt that the production was really good. Dre and Big Boi kept up the dope rhymes on this. I also liked the fact that this album doesn't sound like their debut. Dope album overall #FiveMics
My rating for The Dayton Family: What's On My Mind. Props to @CFBEncyclopedia on this one. This had some good tracks, but it was mostly average TBH. It has some good production. Has an underground Midwest sound to it. The Sound Effectz tracks were unnecessary. #FiveMics
My rating for Eminem: The Marshall Mathers LP. This album has some really good songs and some really bad ones . That's pretty much Eminem's career, really. The production was good, not great. And how many times was he gonna kill Kim. Overall, the album is iight. #FiveMics
My rating for MC Hammer: Please Hammer Don't Hurt Em. This is the start of my Diamond album series. This album was kinda of repetitive production wise. Hammer had a couple good tracks on here, but most of them ranged from average to terrible. #FiveMics
My rating for 50 Cent: Get Rich or Die Tryin'. 50's energy was unmatched in this era. You can hear the hunger that was missing in his later projects. The production sounded very D-12ish which isn't a totally bad thing. Overall I'll say it lived up the hype. #FiveMics
My rating for Black Moon: Enta Da Stage. This album had that underground feel to it. Buckshot was kick some dope Rhymes. 5FT wasn't really needed tbh but his appearances were okay. The Beatminerz killed the samples in the production. Overall this is a dope album. #FiveMics
