***ANNOUNCEMENT*** Coming on December 8th on Blu-ray in the US from @FlickerAlley as part of their #FlickerFusion series: #TheCrowd (1928)! The limited edition spot gloss slipcover will only be available at the Flicker Alley website. No major retailers will be stocking this item. On the heels of his massively successful The Big Parade (1925), director King Vidor delivered another masterpiece with The Crowd, an effortlessly relatable treatise on the human condition that is every bit as soul-stirring today as it was when it first arrived nearly a century ago. Setting virtual unknown James Murray as born-on-the-fourth-of-July American everyman Johnny Sims and the illuminating Eleanor Boardman as Mary, Vidor explores the contradictions of being alive, balancing the existential dread of becoming an insignificant cog in an oppressive system with the sublime beauty of simply maintaining one’s soul in the face of eternal struggle and impossible loss. Simultaneously staggering and intimate, The Crowd offers a timeless cinematic parable. The Crowd comes to home entertainment for the first time in a brand-new restoration from Blackhawk Films, made possible through the generous support of the Sunrise Foundation for Education & the Arts. Featuring three musical scores: a rousing original piano composition by Antonio Coppola, a momentous orchestral score by Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra, and a fascinatingly modern xylophone accompaniment by Illya Amar. BONUS MATERIALS INCLUDE: Audio Commentary - By Kevin Stoehr, author of King Vidor in Focus: On the Filmmaker's Artistry and Vision Skyscraper Symphony (1929) - From the collection of the George Eastman Museum, director Robert Florey’s avant-garde “city symphony” offers New York City’s Manhattan as a high flying trapeze act, paying tribute to a towering and ever-growing skyline The Paths of The Crowd (2026) - A behind the scenes exploration of the film’s lost deleted sequences and alternate endings Ko-Ko’s Magic (1928) - Ko-Ko and Fritz the Dog head to Coney Island to ask the eternal question: Is the pen mightier than magic powder? From Max Fleischer’s Inkwell Imps series and directed by Dave Fleischer, Ko-Ko’s Magic features a brilliant new restoration by Fabulous Fleischer Cartoons Restored with music by Charlie Judkins Johnny and Mary (2026) - A visual essay about King Vidor and his protagonists Image Galleries - Featuring productions stills and promotional material Booklet Insert - A brief overview of the production from Jordan Young, author of King Vidor's The Crowd: The Making of a Silent Classic English SDH Subtitles Blu-ray Authoring by David Mackenzie of Fidelity in Motion All Region Encoding (A,B,C) Language: Silent (English Intertitles) Length: 103 mins. https://t.co/UXyh19cPfa #BluRay #PhysicalMedia #BluRays #BoutiqueBluRay #CultMovies #DiscConnected #FlickerAlley #KingVidor #BlackhawkFilms #SilentFilms

***ANNOUNCEMENT*** Coming on May 5th on Blu-ray in the US from @FlickerAlley as part of their #FlickerFusion series: #TheGardenOfEden (1928)! The limited edition spot gloss slipcover will only be available at the Flicker Alley website and select indie retailers. No major retailers will be stocking this item. Nearly a century after its big screen debut, director Lewis Milestone’s The Garden of Eden returns in a new Blu-ray Disc edition from Flicker Fusion, featuring the 2025 restoration by the San Francisco Film Preserve, the George Eastman Museum, and the Library of Congress, while offering a new orchestral score by Stephen Horne and Frank Bockius. Corinne Griffith headlines as ingénue Toni LeBrun, who leaves her family’s humble bakery to follow fame and fortune in Budapest as an opera singer. That dream shatters however when she finds herself a cabaret chorus girl working for the delightfully menacing Madame Bauer (Maude George). Taken under the wing of the cabaret’s seamstress, Rosa (Louise Dresser), Toni is caught in the whirlwind of glamorous Monte Carlo, winding up in a love triangle between her charming suitor Richard Dupont (Charles Ray) and his determined uncle. Boasting gorgeous production design by William Cameron Menzies, The Garden of Eden was originally released with an early Technicolor dream sequence that, unfortunately, has been lost to time. Utilizing archival research and rare still photographs, this new release includes a reconstruction of that missing three-minute sequence. ***ANNOUNCEMENT*** Coming on January 13th on Blu-ray in the US from @FlickerAlley as part of their #FlickerFusion series: Focus on #LouiseBrooks (1925-1927)! Flicker Alley and San Francisco Film Preserve proudly announce the release of Focus on Louise Brooks, a Blu-ray Disc compilation of the iconic star’s early performances, including her debut in Herbert Brenon's The Street of Forgotten Men. This 1925 melodrama has been fully restored and is being made available for the very first time, joined by extant materials from three additional early Brooks features: American Venus (1926), Just Another Blonde (1926), and Now We’re in the Air (1927). The Street of Forgotten Men stars Mary Brian as Mary Vanhern, a woman who successfully escapes her difficult upbringing on the streets of New York’s Bowery district only to have her past return to threaten her future happiness. Although only onscreen for a brief, uncredited scene, one need only glimpse Brooks to be reminded of the charisma that immediately makes her a screen icon. Restored from a 35mm nitrate negative preserved at the Library of Congress, the film’s missing second reel has been reconstructed using film stills as well as text and dialogue based on a copy of the original script, preserved by the New York Public Library. It features a musical score by Stephen Horne. Although most of Paramount Pictures’ beauty contest comedy American Venus no longer survives, all extant material (including trailers, test footage, and a Technicolor fragment) have been gathered. Brooks’ first substantial role places her opposite Ford Sterling, Lawrence Gray, real 1925 Miss America Fay Elinora Lanphier and, in one of his earlier performances, Douglas Fairbanks Jr. Brooks plays against type in director Alfred Santell’s Coney Island rom-com Just Another Blonde, starring as bookish Diana O'Sullivan opposite Dorothy Mackaill in the title role. The surviving footage includes segments from five of the original six reels. Finally, director Frank R. Strayer’s high flying World War I comedy Now We’re in the Air delivers a double dose of Lulu, setting her as twin sisters Griselle and Grisette opposite hapless aviators played by Wallace Beery and Raymond Hatton. Sadly, only Grisette’s role still exists today in the film’s surviving 22 minute sequence. Focus on Louise Brooks represents the first entry in a new Flicker Fusion series that will explore newly restored films, some lost and/or fragmentary, ripe for rediscovery, and featuring some of early cinema’s biggest names. BONUS MATERIALS INCLUDE: Restoration Demo - A look at the painstaking process that went into preserving the films included in this set Audio Commentaries - Informative audio tracks are included with film scholars Pamela Hutchinson on The Street of Forgotten Men, with author and film historians Thomas Gladysz and Kathy Rose O’Regan on Just Another Blonde, and with Gladysz and Robert Byrne on American Venus and Now We’re in the Air. Looking at Lulu - Explore the fascinating behind the scenes life of Louise Brooks with an extended featurette hosted by historian Pamela Hutchinson Image Galleries - Featuring production stills and promotional material Booklet Insert - With an essay by film historian Thomas Gladysz and restoration notes by Rob Byrne English closed captioning for the deaf and hard of hearing, as well as subtitle tracks in English, Spanish, French, and German Blu-ray Authoring by David Mackenzie of Fidelity In Motion All Region Encoding (A,B,C) https://t.co/UaONgp4kFK #BluRay #PhysicalMedia #BluRays #BoutiqueBluRay #CultMovies #DiscConnected #FlickerAlley #SilentFilms

***ANNOUNCEMENT*** Coming on March 4th on Blu-ray in the US from @FlickerAlley as part of their #FlickerFusion series: #BehindTheDoor / #BelowTheSurface (1919/1920)! Flicker Alley and San Francisco Film Preserve proudly present the return of Irvin V. Willat’s Behind the Door (1919), paired for the first time with his Below the Surface (1920), both newly restored by the SFSFF and available in their most complete versions. Flicker Alley’s initial publication of Behind the Door was honored as Best Blu-ray/DVD disc at Il Cinema Ritrovato in 2018. Legendary producer Thomas H. Ince and director Irvin V. Willat made Behind the Door —“the most outspoken of all the vengeance films” according to film historian Kevin Brownlow—during the period of World War I-inspired American patriotism. Hobart Bosworth stars as Oscar Krug, a working-class American, who is persecuted for his German ancestry after war is declared. Driven by patriotism, Krug enlists and goes to sea. However, tragedy strikes when his wife (Jane Novak) sneaks aboard his ship and is captured following a German U-boat attack. Krug’s single-minded quest for vengeance against the sadistic German submarine commander (played with villainous fervor by Wallace Beery) leads to the film’s shocking and brutal climax. Willat then reteamed with Bosworth the following year with Below the Surface, setting the star as deep sea diver Martin Flint who, along with his son, Paul (Lloyd Hughes), become heroes after saving the lives of a downed submarine crew. Unfortunately, their fame draws the attention of George Webb’s James Arnold, who enlists Paul in a deadly scheme involving sinking ships, lost treasure, and the love of Grace Darmond's Edna Gordon. These newly restored editions represent the most complete versions of these films available, thanks to the San Francisco Silent Film Festival working in partnership with the Library of Congress and Gosfilmofond of Russia. Each film features a new score by Stephen Horne. BONUS MATERIALS INCLUDE: Russian version of Behind the Door - The re-edited and re-titled version of the film that was distributed in Russia, with musical accompaniment by Stephen Horne Outtakes from Behind the Door - Featuring music composed and performed by Stephen Horne “Restoring Irvin Willat’s Behind the Door” - A behind-the-scenes look at the restoration “Kevin Brownlow Spotlights Irvin Willat” - Film historian and Honorary Academy Award® winner Kevin Brownlow spotlights director Irvin Willat Slideshow Gallery - Featuring stills and promotional material from Behind the Door and Below the Surface Printed Essays - Featuring writing on both films by historians Jay Weissburg and Scott Simmon English SDH Subtitles Blu-ray Authoring by David Mackenzie of Fidelity In Motion All Region Encoding (A,B,C) https://t.co/UaTRHJTTHB #BluRay #PhysicalMedia #BluRays #BoutiqueBluRay #CultMovies #DiscConnected #FlickerAlley
