I lament yesterday's decision by an Israeli military court to renew Layan Nasir’s administrative detention for a further four months. This young Palestinian Christian from Birzeit in the West Bank has been held in detention since 6 April on classified evidence that leaves her facing unknown allegations with no way to disapprove them – not knowing when she will be released, all the time without being charged, tried or convicted. This is an egregious state of affairs, as is the fact that her transfer outside the West Bank to Damon Prison is in violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention. I ask the Israeli Government to look again at her case and that she be released.  The widespread and routine manner in which Israel uses administrative detention of Palestinians as an instrument of Occupation is deeply discriminatory. It cannot be legally or morally justified. May God watch over Layan during her detention and comfort her family at this testing time. #FreeLayan

Meet Layan Nasir. Israeli occupation soldiers kidnapped her in April 2024. She has not been charged with a crime & her imprisonment can be renewed indefinitely (it just renewed for another 4 months). She is one of more than 3,400 Palestinian hostages currently being held in Israeli prisons, where she will likely be subject to beatings, torture, solitary confinement, sexual abuse or death. She used to work at a women’s rights institution in Ramallah before being kidnapped by Israel's apartheid soldiers. No charges have been presented. Layan is just one of thousands of Palestinians who are in detention with no charges (including 85+ women). This is part of the Israeli apartheid system that oppresses Palestinians. According to Btselem: “Israel routinely uses administrative detention and has, over the years, placed thousands of Palestinians behind bars for periods ranging from several months to several years, without charging them, without telling them what they are accused of, and without disclosing the alleged evidence to them or to their lawyers.” I have spoken to Layan’ family this morning to console them. Please pray for Layan and Layan’s family. Please pray for justice. Please pray and advocate for the release of the thousands of Palestinian political prisoners / “hostages!”
