There are at least 2 jail cells in town - or rather, 2 locations where jail cells used to be. 1 is inside the old powerplant on High St, and one is in the basement under City Hall. Obviously, they've not been used for a minute or two.

Our sources tell us that at least four US Presidents have visited Baldwin City over the years, plus a British Prime Minister. Theodore Roosevelt did a whistle stop tour in 1912, and William Taft visited Baker University in 1911.

Today weโre focusing on @bclibrary_ks for #FunFriday150! On August 29th, 1992, the Library recruited volunteers to form a human chain and move all the books from their former location on 8th Street down to the current address.
Teddy Roosevelt is among the celebrities and famous individuals who've visited Baldwin City over the years. Granted, it was more like passing through. But he DID give a speech from the back of a train, so there's that.

Today's #FunFriday150: In 1923, city ordinance 223 proclaimed it a misdemeanor to spit on "floors, sidewalks, etc." The fine was "not less than $2 and not more than $25," which translates to nearly a $375 maximum fine in 2020 currency.
