The EJS Center is headed to #UNGA80!
This September, we join leaders, partners, and change-makers in New York to advance conversations on closing the gap in womenâs public leadership. Through our #GapZero Initiative, we are championing a future where women and men share power equally in shaping public life. #GapZero is a call to urgent, collective action.
At UNGA80, the EJS Center will spotlight how collaboration across regions, sectors, and generations can accelerate progress toward this goal and ensure womenâs leadership is recognized as essential to global progress.
Our side event: Collaborative Action Towards #GapZero, is set to take place on Friday, September 26, 2025 between 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM EST at the Ford Foundation Center for Social Justice.

At the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development, we recognize that the challenge of womenâs public leadership in Africa is not one of capacity, but of access, opportunity, and justice.
Through our continent-wide #GapZero Initiative, and in partnership with @MakeEveryWoman Count and Akina Mama wa Afrika, we are convening a series of high-level regional consultations to confront the systemic barriers that continue to limit womenâs full participation in public life.
We begin this critical journey on Thursday, August 28, 2025, with the East Africa Consultation, a gathering of distinguished women leaders, civil society voices, policy architects, and advocates. Together, we will co-develop the #GapZero Manifesto, a strategic framework to:
Address the structural roots of exclusion
Elevate lived experience as legitimate evidence, and
Advance bold, feminist policy solutions

Mrs Geingos has concluded a visit to Monrovia, celebrating the @EJSCenterâs 5th anniversary.
The milestone saw the launch of the #GapZero Manifesto on Gender Equality in Public Leadership and the unveiling of âMusiehjahâ - a fitting tribute to 5 years of transformative impact.
Former First Lady and Chairperson of the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (EJS) Center, Monica Geingos, spoke about the importance of gender equality in public leadership at the #GapZero Manifesto on Gender Equality in Public Leadership event in Monrovia.
The gathering, themed "Charting the Path to Gender Equality in Public Leadership," brought together female leaders, including members and alumni of the Amujae Initiative, to discuss strategies for increasing women's representation and leadership across governance structures.
Addressing attendees, Geingos touched on Namibiaâs 50/50 policy, a landmark initiative aimed at ensuring equal representation of men and women in leadership positions.
She described it as a benchmark for gender parity in public governance and an example of how institutional frameworks can drive meaningful change.
However, Geingos noted that women in leadership often struggle with a lack of support from their female counterparts.
