#Geshe Sonam Gyatso was sentenced to two years in prison for allegedly sending money (for prayer offerings and donation) to His Holiness the #DalaiLama and Kyabje #KirtiRinpoche in India. He is currently detained at #Menyang མེན་ཡང prison located near #Chengdu”.

14/ The four-year #Geshe degree (exclusively for monks till 2012) is considered the highest academic degree in Tibetan Buddhism, equivalent of a PhD. It requires 17+ years of monastic training to be eligible for it+ v. few nuns had come that far until recently. 📷: @olivieradam07
