And here, the actual photograph, (frame 3) taken from the 12 electro-photograph series, showing the racing filly Sallie Gardner with all four of her hooves off the ground. Exposed at #PaloAlto track #19June1878 at 1/2000th of a second or less. The jockey was #GilbertDomm. ‘The Horse in Motion’ proof sheet. The horse Sallie Gardner, running at a 1:40 pace over the track. Frames 1-11 were used to make the #animation (Zoopraxiscope disk in 1878). The filly became a mare in 1879.

1877-1878 EADWEARD JAMES MUYBRIDGE (1830-1904) Speaking of flying horses, Muybridge rigged his cameras to photograph in stationary sequence instead of panning like Marey will do. Cameras were set along a track with triggered shutters using an electro-magnetic mechanism. #SallieGardner was 40' from the camera and exposures were <1/2000 of a sec. This event has gone down in history as the most important moment in the story of moving picture development. Here's how the event looked in the #Zoopraxiscope in 1878, 10 years before #RoundhayGarden.
