His death sparked a 1-day general strike in Vancouver on Aug. 2, 1918, which was the 1st general strike ever held in Canada. The strike was a precursor of the Winnipeg general strike of 1919 & other labour conflicts. https://t.co/WS7wRv2KDB #history #Canada #unions #GingerGoodwin

The story of Ginger Goodwin and his 1918 murder by a cop in British Columbia always reminds me of Cape Breton miner William “Bill” Davis, killed by company police on June 11th 1925.

Albert Goodwin advocated for worker's rights and unions in British Columbia and pushed for better working conditions and pay for coal miners.
His killing by police led to Canada's first general strike and his memory is honoured to this day.
This is his story.
