The special NIA court at Rouse Avenue has granted permission to US National Matthew Aaron Vandyke and 6 Ukrainian nationals to travel to the USA and Ukraine to meet their families for one month, subject to certain conditions and formalities. The court directed the release of their passports to them. All 7 foreigners have been granted default bail by the court.

A significant setback for the Suvendu Adhikari government in Bengal. One of the first major laws brought by the BJP government after coming to power was the West Bengal Public Safety and Control of Anti-Social Activities Bill, 2026, the “Anti-Goonda” law. It sought to give the administration extensive preventive powers: a DM, Police Commissioner or senior police officer could direct an alleged “goonda” to leave an area for up to a year, bar their return and impose reporting requirements. The Bill was presented as a tool to curb anti-social activities.
The President has now returned the Bill for reconsideration after the Centre flagged an overlap with the NDPS Act, 1985 and the PITNDPS Act, 1988, raising an issue under Article 254 of the Constitution. The government can amend the legislation and send it back to the Assembly.
This matters because a flagship early legislative initiative of the new Bengal government has run into a constitutional objection over its overlap with existing Central legislation.

वीडियो वायरल होते ही पुलिस ने इस पर कार्रवाई की है. हालांकि यह वीडियो 21 दिन पुराना है. वीडियो में 3 सितंबर की तारीख दिख रही है, लेकिन यह हाल-फिलहाल में वायरल हुआ है. पुलिस को यह वीडियो 22 सितंबर को मिला, जिसके बाद पुलिस ने इसका सत्यापन कर कार्रवाई की.
