💎 Hackmanite is a variety of Sodalite consisting in aluminosilicate cage network with Na cations and chloride anions in the structural lattice. #Hackmanite exhibits tenebrescence which is the property to change color when exposed to light. The original shade of this particular semiprecious stone is generally pale to deep violet but the color fades quickly to greyish or greenish white, or by turning into vivid violet to pink-red in full sunlight. If left in a dark environment for some time the pale pink will fade again. Tenebrescence is stimulated also by the exposure to ultraviolet light. Two main locations where this stone is mined determine a basic difference; hackmanite harvested in Canada and Greenland is pale lilac to deep violet, while hackmanite from Afghanistan and the Myanmar Republic is originally creamy white turning pinkish red under sunlight.
