Essentially the same fallacy behind #TIF districts like #HarborPt & the failed #PortCovington. "It is dishonest to say there is no public money involved, and condescending to imply taxpayers should be grateful, as if tax dollars that will never benefit them are found money.

The $1.35 billion Ted Leonsis sought from Virginia taxpayers, the billionaire wrote, would only exist because of the new district. In his vision, somehow, owning the teams gave him a right to all the resulting tax revenue. That's not how it works. https://t.co/RYaRJeqCec

@eric_hontz @mddirtlaw @lrhesq @MayorSRB Dont forget family oriented housing options! Good goal, but implentation lacking. The TIFs she championed at #HarborPt & #PortCovington designed as "Live, Work,Play!" for young, single, "creatives." Almost no family sized units, no schools. Play areas for young adults, not kids.

Case in point: #HarborEast, #HarborPt & other high end apartments built along Baltimore's beautiful waterfront & already hot adjacent n'hoods. In addition to views & location, all captured publicly created value via rezoning & subsidies (TIFs & tax credits). What did public get?

This might sound a bit 🌹… but apartment developers only make money by capturing % of value that’s created by others No one ever chose an area due to amazing apartment finishes. It’s because of benefits of an area: whether nature (beach, mountains) or society (culture, schools)

Left wondering if @OIG_Baltimore Isabel Cummings has initiated an investigation of #PortCovington TIF, #HarborPt TIF, MuniMae & City process for development subsidies. Especially after Finance Dept report on inequitable tax credits & @CouncilmanETC's veto of TIF impact study.
