My #HigherApps class are well into their projects after starting them earlier this week. I've reflected on the dataset links and guidance I've given them and made some improvements for next year. While it's a work in progress I'm happy to share what I've done.

Fermi estimations with #HigherApps. Estimating important quantities like "How many potatoes would be needed if every pupil in school had mash for lunch?" and "How many packs of chewing gum have been stuck under the English dept desks in the 15 years or school has been open?"

Calculating correlation coefficient by hand with #HigherApps. Great fun watching them watching me with absolute dismay as I checked answers by typing a single line of code into RStudio. Their revenge was swift tho as they pointed the example I guided them through was wrong!
Analysising tracks on a Spotify playlist with #HigherApps. RStudio highlighted outliers in song duration which lead to an oportunity to play some Napalm Death @officialND to the class.

Summer holiday update: browsing datasets for #HigherApps, watching local wildlife, only half supervising the kids at the park.
Calculating LBTT with #HigherApps as a precursor to income tax and national insurance calculations. Really easy to resource given we were able to just pull the current rates off the government website and some current house prices off local estate agent websites.
