COSTECH-HEET: Advancing Research, Innovation, and Digital Growth in Tanzania. The Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH), through the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) Project, is making significant progress in research, innovation, and digital infrastructure. At a Project Coordination meeting at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), experts highlighted HEET's impact on technology transfer, commercialization, and connectivity in higher learning institutions (HLIs) and research & development (R&D) centers. The project has boosted Tanzania's research visibility, with over 4,000 participants, 200 research papers, and 45 expert dialogue sessions at STICE conferences. To support research commercialization, COSTECH launched the SAMIA Innovation Commercialization Fund, established Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs) and Innovation Hubs in nine HLIs, and trained 35 TTO supervisors in innovation management. Digital transformation efforts have enhanced internet connectivity in 17 HLIs and 15 teacher training colleges, improved HERIN uptime to 99%, and introduced video conferencing and open data platforms for collaboration. In intellectual property (IP) protection, training in six HLIS led to 10 patents registered at BRELA, while 1,200 researchers and 500 innovators joined a national STI database. COSTECH has also developed three national research governance frameworks and launched a documentary project showcasing HEET's impact. By strengthening research visibility, commercialization, and digital access, COSTECH-HEET is driving Tanzania's transition to a technology-driven economy, benefiting academia, industry, and policy-making. #COSTECHTanzania
