#IamSHBC Speech-language pathologists help people with communication difficulties. I’m so passionate about being an SLP, that I’d do it all over again. But wait, I actually did it again! 1st time: 1998 & 2nd: 2017 😝 Cheers to May - Speech and Hearing month! @speechhearbc

As a Speech-Language Pathologist working with DHH children, this message rings so true. No matter the route- through the ears, eyes, or hands, language happens in the brain! #IamSHBC @speechhearbc

It's never too early to start promoting communication health! During Better Speech and Hearing Month, we're encouraging families to learn about the early signs of communication disorders and the importance of early intervention services in our province.

SLPs help patients with trachs to communicate when they can’t speak, to speak for the first time with one-way valves on their trach tubes, and to eat and drink again for the first time with swallowing assessments and therapies

Air moves in and out from the neck. Without regular airflow through the mouth and nose you can’t: smell, taste, blow your nose, swallow normally, or create internal pressure when bearing down (try lifting something heavy or having a 💩 without it!)

Articulation practice that is functional is my favourite. Art, crafts, & games are great natural ways to get lots of repetitions into a session. “Cut” each time we used the scissors = >50 reps! ✂️👍🏻
