This final reflection isn’t really a story. It really just centers on gratitude.
Yup.
Was internship tough? Yes. Was I scared a lot? You better believe it.
But damn, I loved that year. So, so much.
Let me explain why:

Me: *startling awake* “What? Huh?” *looking all around*
Suddenly, he came into focus. It was one of our hospital security officers.
He gestured for me to roll down the window.
Me: “Huh? Oh. Uh okay.”
I tried but couldn’t move.

ICU, 1997
Them: "You need to steer clear of Ida."
Me: "Which one is Ida?"
Them: *head gesture* "The one talking to our attending. She's legendary for going off on interns."
Me: *swallows hard*
Them: "Look. She even checks attendings."
I looked.

The night before internship day one, I had a cough from a lingering URI. When I woke up, this is what I saw in my mirror—a huge subconjunctival hemorrhage.
Did I mention? I knew NO one. It would also be on my ID photo—for all 4 years.

Her: "You want to go Thai Kitchen tonight?"
Me: "Ooooh. Heck yeah. But wait--I have clinic this afternoon."
Her: "It's cool. I'm admitting 'til the on call team comes.
Me: "Okay bet."
Bet.

Me: "Is it normal to feel this afraid on call?"
Her: "Define normal."
Me: "Expected? Regular? Like. . what's supposed to be?"
She took a bite of the room temperature falafel she'd snagged from noon conference to eat on our call night.
