Forcing World Atlas on Supports, even in Draft Pick, isn't protecting us from trolls – the penalties for non-supports already do that. What you've actually done is strip away the early game agency of champions like Sona, forcing a one-size-fits-all starting item that cripples their kit and ignores unique scaling patterns.
How is it good game design to have an expansive item shop where players are told "F*** your strategy, buy this mandatory item or suffer"? You've introduced an oppressive, inflexible rule that punishes creative build paths and champions that rely on early mana sustain (cough Sona cough). According to Reddit, players are already feeling this restriction on support itemization.
If a Mid or Top laner buying World Atlas is penalized into oblivion, why do you feel the need to also remove support players' choice? It's contradictory and insulting to the idea of "customizing your gameplay."
This isn't about preventing "abuse" anymore; it's about forcing a narrow, inflexible playstyle that undermines the core fun of strategic adaptation. Listen to your player base who value the nuanced customization your game used to allow. Stop stifling creativity and let players make meaningful choices again.
