Most people assume Gacy’s victims were strangers he picked off the street. That’s a misconception — and John Szyc is proof. John didn’t stumble into Gacy’s orbit. He worked for him. The morning after Gacy killed John Szyc, he woke to find his young employee Mike Rossi asleep on the couch — with Szyc’s body still in the hallway. They dumped John into the crawl space, then drove to Clark Street to find his car, parked near where Gacy had picked him up the night before. In the trunk? John’s personal belongings. Including a portable Motorola TV. Gacy forged a title, “sold” the car to Rossi for $300 bucks, and Rossi drove it for nearly two years — right up until Gacy’s arrest in December 1978. Rossi was never questioned. Never arrested. Never charged with anything connected to John Szyc’s death. And that Motorola TV? It ended up on Gacy’s dresser. It was still there when police arrived. And it became one of the most critical pieces of evidence in the entire investigation. The full story of 19 year old John Szyc (pictured below)— including exactly why that TV mattered —is covered in great detail on BURIED: Inside the John Wayne Gacy Investigation.
