Karnataka Cyber Command Rescues Two Youths from Myanmar Scam Compound
Bengaluru
In a swift and coordinated international operation, the #KarnatakaCyberCommand successfully rescued two youths from the state who were held captive in a #Chinese-operated scam compound in #Myanmar.According to the official statement, both individuals were safely repatriated and returned to their homes late Sunday night.
The rescue operation was initiated following specific intelligence shared by a Deputy Director of the #EnforcementDirectorate. The #Karnataka Cyber Command subsequently launched a seamless inter-agency effort, working in tandem with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (#I4C ) and officials from the Indian Embassy in Myanmar to secure the victims' release in record time.
Officials pinpointed the compound in Kayin State, located near the Myanmar border. Operated by Chinese syndicates, these facilities are notorious for human trafficking, confining individuals and coercing them into executing large-scale online romance and "pig-butchering" investment frauds globally.
"Timely intervention was decisive in saving the lives and futures of the two young men," the command stated, underscoring the success of real-time intelligence sharing and diplomatic synergy.
In light of the incident, Dr. Pranab Mohanty, IPS, Director General of Police, Karnataka Cyber Command, issued a strong advisory cautioning youth against falling prey to fraudulent overseas job offers. The command specifically warned against accepting highly lucrative positions for "IT," "customer support," "data entry," or "online marketing" roles that require travel to Southeast Asian countries, particularly Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, or Cambodia.
Police highlighted several severe red flags for job seekers, warning against unsolicited employment offers received via social media, WhatsApp, or Telegram. Additionally, candidates should be wary of requests to travel on short notice with flight tickets arranged directly by the recruiter, as well as promises of free accommodation and high salaries with minimal verification of the hiring company. Another major warning sign involves instructions to surrender passports upon arrival or to cross land borders irregularly.
"Many such 'jobs' are fronts for human trafficking into scam compounds where individuals are confined, forced to commit cyber fraud, and subjected to physical and mental abuse," the police advisory noted. Consequently, citizens traveling abroad for employment are urged to independently verify companies through official channels, inform their families and local police prior to departure, and register with the Indian Embassy or Consulate upon arrival.
Police urge anyone facing threats or illegal confinement abroad to immediately contact the nearest #CyberCrime Police Station, the Indian Mission, or dial the I4C helpline 1930 and the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.

Karnataka Cyber Command Bust Fake Call Centers Defrauding US Citizens; Two Arrested
Bengaluru
The #KarnatakaCyberCommand has busted a racket involving fake call centers that were defrauding citizens of the United States. During the operation, officials raided four different locations across #Bengaluru City and arrested the individuals responsible for running the network. The arrested accused have been identified as Prashanth from #Delhi and Akash from #UttarPradesh.
Operating under the guise of "M/s #QuickBook," a prominent #US-based accounting firm, the call centers targeted gullible US citizens. The fraudsters provided counterfeit tax advice, licensing and renewal information, alongside fake license keys and services. To execute the scam, the call center personnel adopted fake names resembling those of #American officials and collected huge sums as fees for their spurious services.
According to the police, the duo established a company named "Circle Square LLC" and utilized various shell companies to allegedly siphon massive amounts of money from their American victims.
The raids were jointly conducted by officials of the Cyber Crime Police Station (South East) and the Special Cyber Cell, based on specific intelligence. Police seized a significant cache of gadgets and materials used to cheat the victims. The seized items include, 44 SSDs, 9 CPUs, 2 Laptops, 2 Mobile Phones and Pre-written scripts prepared in advance to converse with the victims, along with various other accessories
Dr. Pronab Mohanty, Director General of Police, Cyber Command, said investigation is currently underway to trace the flow of the fraudulently acquired funds and identify the accounts through which the money was transferred and liquidated.
