Last set of photos from the 80km #KarooUltra. Lots and lots of sand. Running a marathon in Golden Gate Highlands National Park tomorrow which promises lots of sandstone cliffs (and hills). #RunSouthAfrica🇿🇦

They also take dental hygiene very seriously in Laingsburg - so make sure you brush your teeth in the morning in case you are subjected to "Random Breath Testing". This was at 79 down, 1 to go of #KarooUltra & I had no breath left to give. #RunSouthAfrica🇿🇦

Karoo Desert traffic police are highly skilled in the art of camouflage - you have to be when there are no bushes to hide behind. We got to see the long arm of the law as we crossed the N1 during #KarooUltra (or they might just have been waiting for a high-5). #RunSouthAfrica🇿🇦

The 80k #KarooUltra starts/finishes in Laingsburg, a town best known for 1981 flash flood which wiped out all but 21 houses. None of the rivers we crossed looked particularly threatening on race day. Flood Level Up next Sept for a unique Great Karoo experience. #RunSouthAfrica🇿🇦

Some of the support tables at #KarooUltra were 5⭐️ culinary festivals, others were no frills basic essentials & a few were sadly missing. The latter gave us the opportunity of an authentic "dying of thirst in the desert" experience. All good fun in hindsight!😀 #RunSouthAfrica🇿🇦

When there are more kilometres to run (80) than starters (71) you know you're in for a long & lonely day. Introverts have a definite advantage at this race. I can tell you that the struggle is real for extroverts running alone in the Karoo desert!😀 #RunSouthAfrica🇿🇦#KarooUltra!
