Busy day today! Our team has handled 49 calls for service including 25 stray pet calls. We still have officers on duty all night handling priority calls, so they'll respond to those throughout the evening. Thank you everyone for following along on our #kcpptweetalong day!

One caller stated there was an injured squirrel in her backyard. That the squirrel's tail appeared to be bitten off and it kept trying to climb the tree but was falling. Called back later to say the squirrel was no longer in yard and gone. #kcpptweetalong
Officer Smith responded to a call reporting an animal that was heard in the box springs of a mattress. He was unable to locate the animal and set a trap for follow up #kcpptweetalong
Officer Powers responded to a call regarding a barking dog. Our officer talked with the owner and shared resources and options with them. #kcpptweetalong
Raccoon was just trying to catch some zzzz’s when a dog decided to scare her. #kcpptweetalong
Officer Powers is called to a Goose who is covered in a foreign substance and hasn’t been seen flying. While attempting to capture the bird, it flew away with his flock. It’s determined that if the goose can fly it can escape predators. #kcpptweetalong
Our dispatch team has handled 16 calls for requests including calls regarding:
- Injured raccoon on deck and another in yard
- Stray dog at 57th & Bales
- Stray dog w/ blue scarf on at 22nd & McGee
- 4-5 stray dogs chasing rabbits in neighborhood

Our Animal Services Officer reported to a call of a roaming dog. We have set a humane trap for the dog and our officers will check in the trap twice a day. #kcpptweetalong
We have four dispatchers on duty today. This amazing team handles up to 200-300 calls a day from 7am-7pm. They also keep track of where our officers are located and update notes on open cases. #kcpptweetalong
Thank you everyone for following along with our #kcpptweetalong today. 17 new pets came to our shelter today but many more were adopted or went to foster homes. We’ll leave you tonight with a pic of a sleepy kitten in one of our foster homes.

Our amazing veterinary team today performed surgery on a rat that had a wounded leg. And if you’ve ever wondered what a rat with a tiny cone looks like, here you go! #kcpptweetalong
We had 7 completely adorable Basset Hound puppies that all found forever families at our Zona Rosa location today. They got adopted FAST! #kcpptweetalong

A 1 year old super cute boy was just brought in from animal control, suspected to have been hit by a car. He can’t use his back left leg and has a lot of scratches so he is being examined by our vet clinic. #kcpptweetalong
Trouble would be a great foster or adoption candidate. She is 12 years old and was surrendered by her family, who did not have enough time for her. She enjoys chin scratches and is definitely not as cranky as she looks. 😂 #kcpptweetalong
Our training and behavior team works hard to help the dogs that come in that are stressed in the shelter environment. It’s so nice to have quiet rooms where they can just sit with them to make them feel better. #kcpptweetalong
