Since the newest #icebreaker of the Russian Navy was commissioned last week, I'm reposting my old #KnowYourIcebreakers thread about its characteristics and capabilities.
Continuous #icebreaking capability is about 1 m (3.3 ft) in ahead and 0.64 m (2.1 ft) in astern direction.

Looks like we have again learned a bit more about the upcoming Chinese #icebreaking research vessel Ji Di. Even without a translator, you can make out the China Classification Society (CCS) class notation.

Considering that Evpatiy Kolovrat is not much bigger than the Great Lakes #icebreaker USCGC Mackinaw and has about the same level of #icebreaking capability, it's not that surprising that the fairly small vessel was not delivered via the #NorthernSeaRoute at this time of the year
