@jeha911 I guess we can call out a few ships that will soon start eastbound transits on the #NorthwestPassage. First is the #PolarClass6 cruise ship Seabourn Venture which will be the second vessel to head for a return voyage within the same season...
...and I guess we can call it out now as the #PolarClass6 cruise ship Hanseatic Spirit is crossing into Canadian waters at the eastern entrance to the #NorthwestPassage.
While the #PolarClass6 Hanseatic Spirit is strengthened for navigation in ice-covered waters, it is not an #icebreaking ship designed to operate independently in all ice conditions.

Looks like the #PolarClass6 cruise ship Hanseatic Spirit has required assistance from the Finnish #icebreakers Kontio and Polaris when visiting Kemi.
This must have been quite a spectacle for the passengers โ only the northern lights are missing!

#AISspotted the latest addition to the Chinese #icebreaking research vessel fleet, Ji Di, beginning its maiden voyage to the Arctic.
Xue Long 2 is already at 85ยฐ N and Zhong Shan Da Xue Ji Di is just passing through the La Pรฉrouse Strait.

Chinese #PolarClass6 research vessel Ji Di has been delivered.
Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI) is also building a slightly larger #PolarClass4 research vessel that is expected to enter service sometime next year.
China's new generation icebreaker Jidi was delivered in south China's Guangzhou on Monday and will undertake scientific research missions in H2 2024. The 89.95-m-long #MadeInChina ship has an endurance of 14,000 nautical miles and a self-sustainability for 60 people in 80 days.
Of course, in the end what matters is where and how the ship is operated. After all, #PolarClass6 cruise ships are already operating seasonally in Arctic and Antarctic waters.
The key is that the crew knows not only the ship's capabilities, but also its limitations.
Of course it's not possible to say whether this is sufficient or not without analyzing Ji Di's planned operational profile and actual hull structures. It could also be a typo.
But still, #icebreaking research vessel with... #PolarClass6!? ๐คจ

Looks like we have again learned a bit more about the upcoming Chinese #icebreaking research vessel Ji Di. Even without a translator, you can make out the China Classification Society (CCS) class notation.
