Today, I officially registered as a voter in Waajid District, Bakool Region, my electoral constituency. It is an honour to witness the official launch of voter registration for the one-person-one-vote elections, marking the first time in 56 years that such a process has resumed in our country. This launch represents the beginning of a new democratic chapter, giving the Somali people the opportunity to directly elect those who will represent them in politics and governance. I firmly believe that now is the right moment for Somalia to transition toward an inclusive, transparent, and credible electoral system - one that restores public trust and strengthens accountability among leaders toward the citizens they serve. This election is truly historic, as for the past two decades Somalia has relied on indirect elections, while its people have long aspired to exercise their democratic right to vote freely and directly.
