@mrsbbarksdale I agree with you! “Gotcha” moments do not help create safe, collaborative, learning environments. #lancecoaching23
A3: In Figure 1, I like how the questions are intentionally framed to dig deeper. I feel like you could easily take this and put it into an “I wonder….” statement to help colleagues think about their practices on a deeper level. #lancecoaching23
A3: In figure 1, I really liked how the questions elicit a deeper response and conversation rather than a short response or explanation. These types of questions lend themselves to a reflective conversation with the teacher and their own practices. #lancecoaching23
A2: As mentioned previously, questioning shifts the mindset for me. It allows me to have a conversation about what was observed vs. feeling like what I was doing was incorrect or not as expected. #lancecoaching23
A1: I’ve felt anxious when feedback is developed from an assumption that I was not or my students were not doing something that was expected. The questioning approach would have made this more effective and comfortable for me leading to a conversation. #lancecoaching23
#lancecoaching23 A3 How can you use Figure 1, in helping you give feedback?
#lancecoaching23 A2 How does questions change the dynamic of the feedback for you? (As opposed to being given advice as feedback.)
Q3: I think this goes back to the “I do, we do, you do” model. By letting another learner in on your process of thinking, you are giving them a tool to help them guide their own thinking. Which helps create lasting impact vs a one time fix. #lancecoaching23
Thank you everyone for sharing tonight! I am excited to learn with and through each other! Have a great rest of your evening. #lancecoaching23
@aim4lsu I think it’s similar to how we work with students, we don’t tell them the answer. We ask questions to understand their thinking, help them use their resources, and support them as they come to their own conclusions! #lancecoaching23
A2 I believe our walkthrough week will help teachers build trust and open our eyes to the true strengths our peers have. #lancecoaching23
@aim4lsu This chat is a GREAT reminder of what matters @aim4lsu! I'm guilty when it comes to letting the "BUSY" get to me at times for sure. Being PRESENT & BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS takes time. When you're only on a campus every other week, it's got to be intentional #lancecoaching23
A2 this makes me think about our Campus book study- are we perceived as competent in our role? If our colleagues don’t think we are competent the. Why listen to anything we have to say. We have to build the relationship for coaching to work. #lancecoaching23
A2: coaching others is not about telling them if they are right or wrong/if their way is right or wrong. It is about helping them probe into their own thinking and planning processes so that they can self assess and refine. #lancecoaching23
Q2: It’s really important for coaches view teachers as PEOPLE, not projects. Coaches should get to know teachers, recognize & call out their strengths, and help see their goals and motivations. Listening & getting to know teachers helps coaches from taking over! #lancecoaching23
“Telling people what we think of their performance doesn’t help them thrive and excel and telling people how we think they should improve actually hinders their learning.” - Knight What does this mean for you? #lancecoaching23
Q2: This means that’s when approaching someone to help, it may be difficult to help if someone doesn’t want help. It is beneficial to offer to model or bring someone to observe someone else. #lancecoaching23

@aim4lsu I’m a very visual but also a planner. I also like to have the space to ask allllll the questions. So I love the “I do, we do, you do” approach. That gives me the opportunity to see how the whole process should look but then also have support when I execute it. #lancecoaching23
A1: I get the most from a exemplar model with me working as “the student” and then seeing the same thing play out with real students along side a coach so I can ask clarifying questions in the moment. #lancecoaching23
A1. My favorite way to be coached is to be in the pit with the coach and work our way out together. That is probably why I love the lit lab PD our @NorthwestELA coaches offer! I do, we do, you do. #lancecoaching23
