The World's Largest Book is Made of STONE! 🪨📖 #KuthodawPagoda #LargestBook #May4 Located in Mandalay, Myanmar, the Kuthodaw Pagoda is not your average library. In 1860, King Mindon wanted to permanently preserve the entire Theravada Buddhist scripture. Instead of using paper, he ordered the text to be hand-carved into 729 massive marble slabs! It took dozens of master stonemasons eight solid years to chisel out the text. Each five-foot-tall stone "page" is housed in its own beautiful white shrine. If you want to read this entire book, you literally have to walk through a massive architectural maze! The letters were even originally filled with real gold. On May 4, 1868, this jaw-dropping marvel was finally opened to the world.
