Day 210 (Part 6): Back at the Mayors Parlour we joined “One Multi-Academy Trust” for an online meeting with the pupils to talk about respect. The trust is a group of 15 schools across Manchester but are firmly rooted in Bolton. They have recently implemented their pupil leadership programme across all their schools. It teaches Year 4 children the essential and specific qualities of effective leadership: communication, respect, collaboration, thoughtfulness, adaptability and creativity. Each half-term, over 300 children access a virtual 'leadership lecture', either recorded presentations or videos, to learn about the qualities through a leader's perspective. Pupils learn about a local, national or global key figure that has or continues to demonstrate this leadership quality in action. They are incredibly passionate about developing the leaders of the future, and want their pupils to become brilliant ambassadors of Bolton in the future. In my current role as a mayor, and my previous experience in the army and running my own business, they felt I would be a good role model that their pupils could learn from and I was honoured to help. It took the form of a Q&A session, with pupils preparing and asking their own questions of me. Apart from a few initial tech issues at the beginning the event was a great success.
