��️In 2017, Benjamin Mendy was the world’s most expensive defender.
A £52M star for Man City, a Premier League champion, and a World Cup winner. He lived in a £4.8M mansion called "The Spinney." He had it all.
⛔️Between 2018 and 2021, six different women came forward.
They accused Mendy and his friend/personal assistant, Louis Saha Matturie, of being "predators" who used parties at Mendy's mansion to trap and assault them.
🚔Mendy faced a staggering 10 charges, including 8 counts of rape, 1 count of attempted rape, and 1 count of sexual assault.
The prosecution claimed his friend Matturie was his "fixer," finding young women and bringing them to the house for "games."
🗓️In August 2021, Man City suspended him. He was denied bail and sent to HMP Altcourse, a high-security prison.
He went from playing in front of 50,000 fans to sitting in a cell for 4 months. He even moved to a top-tier prison for his own safety.
🔵The first trial in 2022 was wild.
A video emerged of one accuser having "enthusiastic and consensual sex" with Matturie just days after she claimed she was raped. The judge ordered the jury to find them NOT GUILTY on those specific counts immediately. 🎥🤯
After two massive trials and years of headlines, the result was final in July 2023.
Benjamin Mendy: NOT GUILTY of all remaining charges.
Louis Saha Matturie: Also cleared of multiple counts.
Mendy wept in court. His name was clear, but his career was in ashes. 🕊️🏛️
👿Mendy didn’t stop there. He sued Manchester City for £11.5M in unpaid wages.
The club had stopped paying him the moment he was charged. Mendy argued they had no right to "fire" him before he was found guilty. 💼💰
In late 2024, the judge ruled in Mendy’s favor.
Man City was ordered to pay him approximately £8.5 million. The court ruled his suspension was "unavoidable" and he was still "ready and willing" to work. A massive financial victory.

The "threat" in this case was Shakira’s determination to take the children permanently to Miami. Piqué initially fought this move, wanting his sons to remain in Barcelona where they had grown up. The final negotiation meeting famously lasted 13 hours, with Piqué eventually making a massive "fatherly sacrifice" by agreeing to let them leave Spain so they wouldn't have to face a traumatic, public trial.
Part of the property battle involved their interconnected family estate. They had originally built a "triple house" complex for themselves, Shakira’s parents, and Piqué’s parents to live side-by-side. After the split, Piqué’s father, who managed the family’s investment firm, reportedly sent Shakira an eviction letter to force her out of the house by a specific deadline so the property could be put on the market.
As of early 2026, the two have finally started offloading their shared Madrid and Barcelona assets. They recently sold one of their interconnected villas for over $3.2 million, while their main mansion remains listed for nearly $11 million.
Piqué has had to settle for a visitation schedule of 10 days per month and has recently been spotted looking for his own apartment in Miami just to be near his children, proving that even a "win" in these cases often costs a man his home.
