From today, 1 Feb, a suspect arrested & charged with a Schedule 8 offence MUST have their sample taken & added to the National Forensic DNA Database. SAPS have committed to reducing the backlog to zero by 1 Nov. #DNA #letstalkbacklog
As South Africa has such a high rate of recidivism, populating the DNA database of Section 8 arrestees can help with successful convictions, as well as act as deterrent for those criminally-inclined.
