OTD- August 21, 1921, #LiamMellows organised the smuggling of a consignment of M1921 Thompson Sub-machine Guns into #Arklow harbour by Irish Republican Volunteers.
The
much prized sub-machine guns were smuggled across from #Liverpool
The delegates, I repeat, had no power to sign away the rights of Ireland and the Irish Republic.
They had no mandate to sign away the independence of this country as this Treaty does.

Members of the Socialist Republican Colour Party at the Commandant General Liam Mellows centenary event in Wexford.
We continue to commemorate Ireland's Civil War, whose complex legacies still reverberate. #CountessMarkievicz eulogized #LiamMellows during the burial of his exhumed body in Castletown, County #Wexford, in October 1924. The Irish Free State had executed Mellows in December 1922.
