@UnlogicGate As soon as we have access to fully owner controlled POWER ISA 3.0+ compatible ASICs in the correct power range...of course! That has been the primary blocker, though with additional elapsed time WiFi etc. will also become problematic. We are working with #LibreSoC to this end.
When paired with the industry-first #Kestrel soft BMC, the Arctic Tern is capable of starting #OpenPOWER platforms such as the #TalosII. Kestrel supports #OpenPOWER compatible CPUs, such as #Microwatt and #LibreSoC, and leverages the #Zephyr RTOS.

@runlevel__5 @mpc7500v2 @PaoloFurani Likely the best bet for a device in that class is something along the lines of what the #LibreSoC folks are doing. It takes time to fix a decade or more of apathy and movement to closed source / effectively leased / disposable computing devices...
@TylerBarton27 @KathyDRand Unfortunately we're still in a bit of a chicken/egg situation, it's difficult to get low cost consumer-grade blob-free silicon manufactured without the same kind of side deals that force the blobs / loss of control in the first place. We're definitely keeping an eye on #LibreSoc!
@lepidotos @justinrwlynn @Developer122 @oxidecomputer @openpower @Puri_sm POWER11 (and even POWER10) aren't really a problem -- we're on board with the #LibreSoC project and could see the closed IBM silicon being replaced with new, fully compatible, 100% blob-free silicon by the time POWER11 rolls. With any luck IBM might open POWER11 too! 😀
@midmagic @AlwaysCurious__ @RobertSpigler @notgrubles @rot13maxi @QubesOS @XenHypervisor @RaptorEng @OpenPOWERorg @coreboot_org @LukeDashjr Should be noted that this is SiFive's opinion, they don't care enough about open systems to make the changes / investment needed for open firmware. Us, @RaptorEngineering and #LibreSoC are currently the only organizations tackling this problem head-on instead of rationalizing it.
@RobertSpigler @midmagic @notgrubles @rot13maxi @QubesOS @XenHypervisor @RaptorEng @OpenPOWERorg @seL4Foundation @coreboot_org @thierry_laurion @LukeDashjr @AlwaysCurious__ @no112_dm We'd rather see the work put into POWER...no really usable RISC-V CPUs without blobs, POWER10 is just an anomaly in that regard in our opinion. Look no further than where #LibreSOC is going -- no blobs as a hard requirement, vs the SiFive stance of blobs being mandatory.

The choice of open CPUs is increasing:
With #LibreSOC now comes a processor based on the #OpenPower Architecture.
I've often posted about RISC-V, but fortunately there is more.
