Governing is far harder than opposition. You would be forgiven for thinking it was the other way around. Especially after watching the Liberal Party at last weekend’s election. As the Liberal blame game begins - make no mistake - the responsibility falls squarely at the feet of everyone in that organisation who has something to say. They will blame the whisper campaign against Dutton, the undermining, the “woman” problem, the new Australians that were stacked into seats, the factionalism, campaign HQ, Dutton himself, Ley, Taylor, Michael Photios and the lobbyists, the NSW division and just about everyone else but themselves. The truth is, they all did it. They are all responsible. They did not oppose the government, instead they tried to outspend them, while claiming better economic credentials. They gave way to Net Zero, while holding Nuclear up as a 20 year off solution to today’s problems. They didn’t address the housing shortage caused by incredible demand, driven by unsustainably high immigration and insane levels of tax, green and red tape. The building industry is on the ropes during a housing shortage. They didn’t address the insane levels of personal tax paid by low- and middle-income earners. They didn’t address productivity or industrial relations. Especially the out-of-control unions, who - now emboldened - will continue to use their organisations as a ladder into political office, and nothing more. Liberals didn’t oppose. They didn’t sell an alternative vision; they didn’t take any political risk for more than five minutes before they backtracked and tried to outdo Labor. They undermined their own positions at every opportunity. The truth is that the Liberal party is responsible for the destructive force that is an emboldened Labor party. Aside from a few insiders, there is little celebration on the streets, for the return of the worst and most out of touch government in Australia’s history – with an increased majority. The opposition didn’t sell a common-sense, positive and exciting alternative vision for Australia. An alternative desperately needed. They didn’t hold Albanese to account, because they were going to continue to do the same things he hasif they won office. They will continue to cheer for Albanese in opposition. They are no longer a viable alternative, and they are entirely incapable of reform. They will indeed commission another review from what they will call “preeminent” Liberals. Those “reviewers” will be hand selected by the same people that have no idea why things are so bad, or worse, those that want morph into Teals. It has been a long road to this point. Two decades of decline. For mine, it is now a party of vested interests, cowards and fools. The few good people left are less likely to renew their memberships every year, others are ageing out. The spirit of Menzies no longer resides in the tent emblazoned with the big blue “L”. They foolishly embarked upon a policy platform and leadership style that would appeal to “Teal” seats, while trying as hard as they could to force that down the throat of middle- and working-class seats, in places like McMahon, Werriwa, and Parramatta. It was never going to work, and it never will. They will not stop trying, because those that own the place – the lobbyist class, does not care who wins, they trade with both sides. The things the lobbyists want, are not in opposition to growing the machinery of government, grants, largess and waste. The lobbyists are there to sell government favour and taxpayer money. We must oppose them. There must be an opposition. People are crying out for hope; we must give it to them. We must outline an alternative vision, that is sustainable and good. Time is short. We must restore opposition to Labor; we must restore traditional Australian values and Australian ingenuity. We must especially restore the dream of home ownership again – for everyone. And we will.
