When my #Montrealkids talk about a “company animal,” they don’t mean some kind of corporate mascot. They just mean a plain, old pet: un animal de compagnie. #persoanglofrancophones #linguisticinterference

My #Montrealkids need constant reminders in English and Persian that they are people, not days. “Mummy, which day are we?” «ددی، ما کدوم روز هستیم؟» « Quel jour sommes-nous?” » #persoanglofrancophones #linguisticinterference

No, when my kids say “my shoes are teasing me” they don’t actually think their shoes are jokesters;it’s not about foot tickles either. They’re speaking Fenglish. The same Persian word اذیت can mean bother/irritate but also tease. #persoanglofrancophones #linguisticinterference

You might think mine are super hip, ironic kids for saying “That’s so boring!” to express their annoyance, but in fact they’re just translating from “ennuyeux.“ #Montrealkids #persoanglofrancophones #linguisticinterference

True, “à un moment donné” is overused in Quebec, but nothing is more charming than my kids saying in English “and then at a moment my hands got tired.” #Montrealkids #persoanglofrancophones #linguisticinterference
