My approach to explore and further our knowledge of the topic is to analyse the impact of war experience on the Polish community in Britain, explore the Resettlement Camps and how the Poles saw their future in Britain as well as British responses. #lonwar 7/12
As with every methodology, there are of course limitations. In my case these limitations pertain to the issue of memory and narrative in oral histories and the historiography which in many cases does not utilise primary accounts of Poles that migrated into Britain. #lonwar 6/12

My conclusion is still a work in progress. So far, I can conclude that women in the WAAF functioned alongside the RAF and contributed more physical labour than other branches of women’s work. #lonwar

My final chapter will compare oral histories of experiences in the air force. I have chosen to consider three women, some experienced work in the WAAC also and some just the air ministry. #lonwar
The lack of information on the WRAF in WW1 encouraged me to use historiography from WW2 in order to consider the long-serving impact of the branch. #lonwar
My second chapter will consider how the WRAF worked alongside the RAF as it enjoyed great numbers of recruits as demonstrated in newspaper articles and images. #lonwar
Historiography shows air power as romanticized by the public. Flying aces enjoyed great admiration and were depicted as the modern hero after new technologies evolved and showed that men were now dependent on military technology as a modern style of warfare emerged. #lonwar
My first chapter will use primary sources from IWM photographs and newspaper archives to consider visual representations of the air force. News articles consistently show the RAF’s patriotic appeal to the public as they attempted to ‘rouse the rural population’. #lonwar
