In the same trail of thoughts, don't be afraid to write characters who are wrong. Let them be unperfect. Let them be relatable. Let them be a person who has something to learn.

Don't forget to take short breaks every 20~25 minutes, your brain will thank you for it. By short, I mean 5 minute : you don't want to lose all your focus either. And throw in a longer break every now and then to recharge, something around 20~30 minutes.

If you're bored reading one of your chapters, it may mean you need to change something in it to make it interesting again.
โบ Don't give your readers boring chapters.
โ It doesn't mean you have to make them all action-packed, though.

Be careful with descriptions. Give the reader a good idea of what a scene or character look like, but keep in mind that too much information may confuse them and make your text heavier than it should be.

If you're having a hard time writing a character or scene, don't underestimate the power of music.
โบ Take a step back, look for some new tunes (8tracks, spotify, youtube are nice places to look at) and find something that inspires you.

Be mindful of the rhythm of your sentences. Too many sentences with a similar amount of words and commas back to back tend to break the reading flow.

Never stop learning your craft, but also learn to trust your guts.
Read lots of books, different genres, watch movies and deconstruct them. Find what made you like or dislike a scene. Critique everything you consume (but keep it to yourself).
Writers, remember! Research is your best friend!

โบ Work with your character, not against.
โ Let them surprise you.
โ If you had plans but they decide otherwise, follow their lead, see where it goes. It may end up being a wrong turn, but it may also be exactly what you needed and you didn't even know.

When editing:
โบ Read your text out loud like it was an audiobook. It helps pinpoint too long sentences and where to put commas.
โ Hearing yourself reading also helps noticing words you repeat too often and sentences you thought made sense but actually don't.

Questions to consider when creating a character:
โบ What were they doing before the story begins? (school, work, hobbies, childhood, accomplishments)
โบ Where do they live? Does it impact on their beliefs, clothing style or the way they think or speak?
