Police on Wednesday arrested a man and his accomplice for allegedly killing his 40-year-old wife at Gazachak Mohammadpur under Janipur police station area in #Patna on last Sunday night. The deceased was identified as #MalaDevi, wife of #SubodhSharma, a resident of #Jehanabad who runs a small hotel in #Babhanpura, #Phulwarisharif. According to police, Mala Devi arrived in Patna from her parental home in Jehanabad on Sunday to visit her in-laws. However, her body, bearing gunshot injuries, was found in an agricultural field in the night. Upon receiving the information, police rushed to the spot and based on the circumstantial evidence, arrested both accused-Subodh, her husband, and his accomplice, Kunal Kishor, a resident of Narayanpur Murari, Jehanabad. City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh said that the preliminary investigation revealed that the motive behind the murder stemmed from a combination of financial disputes and personal suspicions. "Subodh believed his wife withheld a significant portion of the proceeds from land sold for around Rs 26 lakh, which was not given to him. Additionally, he suspected her of having extramarital relationships with multiple men." "To execute the crime, Subodh took Kunal's help, to whom he earlier paid Rs 2.5 lakh. The accused assured him that if he assisted in the murder, then he would not have to return that money. Kunal, who had prior personal relations with Mala and also worked as staff at Subodh's hotel, lured her to the isolated spot on the pretext of showing a plot of land. Since they knew each other, she did not suspect foul play and accompanied him without resistance. Upon arrival, Subodh, who was lying in wait, shot her dead. The weapon is yet to be recovered, and a separate team was formed to probe the matter," the SP told the media persons. Key electronic evidence, including the cellphones and SIMs used before and after the crime, was seized. Call records and tower locations confirmed the movements and communications between the accused and the victim. Both accused were remanded to judicial custody after production in a court.
