Hello everyone, today at #NMedtwittertakeover, let’s discuss how to deliver an effective pitch. Let’s say now you have a journal in mind. How to convince the editor that it’s a good fit for the journal? You’ll need a convincing cover letter. #ManuscriptTips
It’s Kate again, on the second day of #NMedtwittertakeover. Today let’s talk about choosing the right journal. #ManuscriptTips
#ManuscriptTips: 4.Discussion. Rather than restate each result, discuss how your work can guide your field. Speculation is fine if you frame it that way. Your work sets up that of others, so tell us how and what you feel is important to now think about! Questions?
#ManuscriptTips: 3.Results and figures—these need to match. Referees will notice if they don’t. Readers should not need to hunt through methods, supplementary information and references to understand how experiments were performed. Transparency in the details is crucial.
#ManuscriptTips: 2.The introduction should give the relevant background for the field and the context to understand the importance of the manuscript’s contribution. It’s not necessary to use the intro to restate the results presented in the abstract. Be succinct!
#ManuscriptTips: 1.Abstracts should state the problem, how you tackled it, what you found, and the implications for the field. Don’t claim what you don’t show—in the title or in the abstract—but equally do directly describe your results and clarify the advance for the field.
