1071, Michael VII Doukas went from co-emperor to sole ruling emperor after Regent Evdokia Makrembolitissa (Romanos' wife) was removed and true monarch, Emperor Romanos IV, was denied the throne while returning from his capture at #Manzikert.

Per coloro a cui è sfuggito il discorso del presidente #Erdoğan per celebrare "La battaglia di Manzicerta (#Manzikert, in turco #Malazgirt) che fu combattuta il 26 agosto 1071 tra l'esercito del sultano selgiuchide Alp Arslān e quello bizantino dell'imperatore Romano IV Diogene presso l'odierna cittadina turca di Malazgirt, è fondamentale sottolineare un passaggio di quel discorso che rafforza quanto vi ho sempre detto in merito alla retorica erdoğaniana: #Erdoğan non ama semplicemente costruire ed espandere un paese dei e per i turchi, ma ama l'idea di un impero multietnico. Non sono parole casuali. #Erdoğan vive questo dilemma perché, mentre è convinto di questa narrazione, d'altro canto è pienamente consapevole che c'è un gruppo significativo di persone nell'opposizione e nella sua base elettorale che si sentono minacciati da questa narrazione di "multietnicità" e sono più rassicurati dal loro essere "Türk".
Sono cose queste non da poco in #Turchia, dove vive una comunità curda di 16 milioni di abitanti.
