Someone has just submitted their #math1070 critical reflection task — more than three weeks early. 😲 I had a sneaky peak. I think I am really going to enjoy reading these in a few weeks’ time.

A familiar face appears in my #math1070 class. M drew inspiration for his mini-talk from @misterwootube’s book.

This was a successful addition to #math1070! Hunting for counterexamples. (I realised students don’t actually know what counterexamples are, so we practiced them.)

1. An estimation number talk: 657÷30. After circulating and collecting answers on the board, I asked students to write in response to ‘I think ___ is unreasonable because ___.’ (Strategy by Jennifer Clerkin Muhammad; described on p 90 #BecomingMath. ) #math1070 2/n

Ooohhh. Tried introducing Skyscraper puzzles with #NoticeWonder in my second #math1070 class. Started with the cylinders, then introduced the grid, then came to what we might do with them. Worked a treat.

Developing thinking around multiple representations in #math1070. Emerging ideas to explain why odd+odd=even.

Some #QuarterTheCross this week in #math1070. Rejigged the card sort to be more accessible. Students really dug into understanding the visual representation of 1/2x5/2. Careful listening helped uncover three different ways of thinking about it. 😎
