Once in a while this chatter about how traditional #peetas and #mathas have failed society - how they should have built hospitals and schools etc. How they should have been holding flags in a political movement etc. In other words why don't mathas function like the church? There is a fundamental difference in the mission vision and values. The purpose of the church is to propagate religion - the schools colleges and hospitals are a tool in its larger goal of #proselytisation. The traditional mathas were established to further and preserve a particular philosophy - #Advaita in the case of the amnaya peethas of #shankara #vishistadvaita in case of the #ramanuja simhasanas and #dwaita in the case of the #madhva peethas. As reiterated by Sri Sri Bharathi teertha mahasannidhanam of #sringeri - that is their primary purpose. To preserve vedanta to teach vedanta and to initiate the desirous into that path... Education and colleges and hospitals are a duty of the state - the state fails and the church uses it as an instrument to fulfil its mission. Traditional Mathas and peethas have involved themselves in secular activities - often as a reaction to the church's influence in regions. But as we have seen in many instances - at great harm to their primary mission. Peethas and mathas are meant to provide spiritual guidance - teach dharma - help those ready find the last mile... They are not meant to be a replacement for a failed state, not a replacement for community based philanthropy, not a replacement for your home vadhyaar not to be political tool ... The sannidhanams are not meant to pander to our idea of what smritis must be, not meant to reinvent a more cuddly version of religion, not meant to perform miracles, not meant to conjure things out of thin air and certainly not meant to be TV evangelists. They are meant to do penance teach and guide those who seek their advice and pray for loka kshema. They are sanyasis who adorn a Peeta for a specific purpose determined by the founder of the order - not heads of an institution who also happen to be sanyasis. The sooner we disabuse ourselves and have the right expectations from peethas the better it is for us as a society. Pls comment - happy to engage respectfully

1st @siddaramaiah cabinet decided to change the existing laws on #cowslaughter and #religious #conversion. When there was strong pushback from #Mathas, they backed off. Now #UdupiHorror . Finally they register FIR though indications are bad. ये थेथर हैं। Go figure @KanchanGupta

@ShefVaidya @SadhguruJV @SriSri Only if #SanātanDharma is provided to children as a #Sanskār easily understable scientific logical way, then only Bharatiya #Sabhyatā & #Gyan will survive. Redundancy of many #Mathas is simply coz they have disconnect with people, youth wants to understand Dharma, & they excel.
