#MedievalStuff Note how the text/music is placed in one direction & the images in the other. The text/music was for the cleric & the images for the laity listening to the performance. They were really long.

#MedievalStuff Notices and manifestos were nailed to the church doors, as were the Lollard Twelve Conculsions to Westminster Abbey and St. Paul’s Cathedral in 1395 & of course, Luther's 95 Theses. Or they were pasted nearby onto the stone.
#MedievalStuff Church doors were crucial. Notices of liturgical celebrations (time, date), landowner will dig a ditch through his bog, a stray sheep lost, election of HRE, etc. Personal challenges, by hanging glove challenged an enemy to combat if they were taken down.
#MedievalStuff The grand size of some parish churches cause wonder, but as the community center, all of the space was needed. If people needed to get from one side to the other, they walked through the church. Doors remain open during the day to allow people to pass through. 🧵
