Ok, another Army story. Spiders:🤣🤣 My ODA was doing a Team Eval. We got a recon mission & had to hoof it halfway across Ft. Campbell in the dark. After miles of land nav, we finally got into our target area an hour before sun-up. We got everything well camouflaged behind a fallen tree and kicked out Sniper-Observer teams to get eyes-on. Then the sun came up & the guys realized we were in the middle of a giant nest of tree spiders. No big deal, they were the tiny ones that don’t cause any harm, but half of the Detachment was so opposed to using it as our Mission Support Site (including my Tm Sgt & Warrant) that we literally picked up and moved 100m in the broad daylight. I couldn’t help but laugh & shake my head in disbelief. When we went to do our AAR with the Battalion Staff, they asked, “why on earth did you guys pick up & move the MSS in broad daylight?” “Spiders, it was full of spiders”, was my Team Sergeants answer. The LTC, BN Warrant, & CSM just nodded in approval & said “makes sense.”🤣🤣🤣🤣 They had more of an issue with weapons selection, which I was prepared for with a chart of penetration capabilities & Joules of terminal ballistics in my pocket to answer their observation with. Train as you fight, but also use common sense when it’s just training.
