After ruling this month, #BarryMorphew posts $3 million bail, is released from jail. That meant he had to come up with a fraction of the $3 million. Customarily that's 10%, which in this case would mean $300,000.
It is deeply frustrating to see a judge lower Barry Morphew’s bond, allowing him to make bail and walk free while #SuzanneMorphew’s family and community are still waiting for justice.
Decisions like this highlight how often judges seem disconnected from the reality of violent crime and the lasting trauma it causes. While the legal system emphasizes the rights of the accused, it too often overlooks the rights of victims and their families, sending the wrong message about accountability and the value of a life lost.
Judges must do better—taking domestic violence and missing person cases more seriously, weighing the impact on communities, and restoring public faith that justice is not just a legal technicality but a moral obligation.
