🔙 The #Morasco Dam is the most important dam in the Val Formazza area in Piedmont, Italy, and its construction represented a significant milestone in the evolution of handling concrete.
Built between 1936 and 1940 involving 1,200 people, it feeds the Ponte hydroelectric plant together with the Toggia Dam, by means of a five-kilometres tunnel. For its construction, that took place at 1,815 meters of altitude, work could only be carried out for 4 months in the whole year, when frost and snow made it possible to climb to higher altitudes, via the new specially built road.
In 1957, the plant was expanded with the inauguration of the hydroelectric power plant of the same name, entirely underground and fed by the Sabbione Dam (with a capacity of 26 million m3), the first artificial lake in terms of capacity in Piedmont and the second in all of the Alps.

Our history, everybody's heritage. Between the two world wars there was a boom in #hydroelectric energy in #Italy. The #Morasco #dam, built by #Webuild's predecessors in the 30s, is a concrete construction 50m tall with an extension of 600m➡️https://t.co/TSRONKQqqv
