💡 Inspirations from the 2024 NEC Conference: What does it really mean to be inclusive?
At the #NECdev plenary on inclusive #evaluation, Professor Sanjeev Sridharan of @uhmanoa shared his experience with a program called "Dancing with Parkinson's" in Canada.
💃 About 10 years ago, the program began offering weekly dance classes as a form of therapy for people with Parkinson's, a neurodegenerative disease that affects mobility.
😷 But then, COVID-19 struck. In-person classes were no longer an option.
Instead of canceling the classes, they decided to hold them online after realizing that the sessions had become a vital space for participants to connect with each other. 🫶
As Professor Sridharan pointed out:
"Hallmarks of inclusion are the sense that—what else can I do for you? How do I adapt both to your realities as well as this thing called COVID? How do I continue to create a warm space once we realize people are not just there to dance... but to connect?"
