.@AmodeiForNevada wants @SettelmeyerNV to succeed him in CD2. But intentionally or not, Amodei has undermined him at every turn. First, Amodei announced that he wouldn't run for re-election shortly before filing opened. Amodei further signals he won't endorse a candidate, creating a free-for-all behind the scenes. Second, after Amodei didn't anoint a successor, the White House froze the field by signaling Trump's support for @SamBrownUSA, who eventually decides not to run. Third, this delay made it difficult for other candidates to raise money. @AndyMatthewsNV decides to pass on the race, but Settelmeyer jumps in. Fourth, @DavidFlippoNV moves from CD4 to CD2. His big advantage is that he has a self-funded war chest. It takes time to raise money and now Settelmeyer is racing the clock. Fifth, Amodei does eventually endorse Settelmeyer, but free from the pressure of running for re-election, Amodei dumps on Trump. Sixth, Trump unexpectedly endorses Flippo, making him the favorite. From what I've heard, Trump did this in direct response to Amodei's criticism on Trump. Seventh, Trump is beloved in CD2. His endorsement of Flippo, even after early voting was already underway, makes Flippo the new and unexpected favorite.

As the first candidate President Trump endorsed in CD-2 last November (see below), I can tell you he got it right the first time. But since I won’t be on the ballot, he made a mistake today. Northern Nevada Republicans deserve a strong Nevada voice in this district, just as they’ve had with Barbara Vucanovich, Jim Gibbons, Dean Heller, and myself for the last 43 years. The home team has done just fine. The time has not come for a national private political organization to pick for Nevadans, who speaks for them in the U.S. House of Representatives. I proudly voted for pure Nevada, Nevada proud, James Settelmeyer. With all due respect Mr. President, Nevada already has five representatives who live in Clark County. Your endorsement if followed, would make it six out of six. CD-2 has been especially good to you throughout your three runs. This endorsement is an incredibly curious way to say thank you to those people who have been the bedrock of your political endeavors here in original Nevada. JAMES SETTELMEYER WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN.
