The beacon detector generalizes what RITA pioneered for @Zeekurity connection logs: the same robust statistics, streaming instead of a batch job, fed by NetFlow, Suricata, firewalls, and cloud flow logs alike.
The statistics earn their place. In our example data, one 10-minute gap in a 60-second check-in cadence drives the interval standard deviation to 189 seconds, while the median absolute deviation stays at 1 second, and Bowley skewness reads 0.33. Detection built on robust estimators keeps the cadence that the mean loses.
